Best of Rwanda 2024 _ 3rd Place Winning Lot

Best of Rwanda is a coffee competition and auction launched in 2024 by the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) of Rwanda. Its aim is to support small-scale farmers and promote sustainable coffee production.

This is the first national coffee competition since the Cup of Excellence in 2018. A total of 19 lots were selected, featuring not only traditional fully washed coffees but also honey, natural, anaerobic natural processes, and coffees from newly emerging production areas.

This Rwanda Rwamatamu was produced using the traditional fully washed process. It offers an exceptionally clean cup, with the characteristic sweetness of red apple typical of Rwandan coffees, along with fruity notes of passion fruit and stone fruits, creating a complex and layered flavor profile.

Of the 19 winning lots in the Best of Rwanda, 9 were the fully washed Bourbon variety. Despite its small geographical size, Rwanda showcases a wide variety of flavor profiles, once again highlighting the unique appeal of its terroir.

Rwamatamu comes from a Coffee Washing Station (CWS) in the western region, and it has a distinct flavor that sets it apart from Ruli in the northern region, which we usually feature.

Known as the Land of a Thousand Hills, Rwanda offers an exceptional terroir. We invite you to experience it for yourself.
